1. Minister’s Schedules
Minister Yu Woo-ik will today sign a memorandum of understanding with Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo and the head of Yeoncheon-gun Kim Gyu-seon at Yeoncheon-gun office to establish a cultural exchange center. The center is designed to facilitate exchanges between teens from the two Koreas and to make students better prepared for unified Korea in the future. MOU will break ground for construction in August, 2012 and complete the work by August, 2014.
2. Vice Minister’s Schedule
Today, Vice Minister Uhm Jong-sik is scheduled to have a meeting with Valerie Amos, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, in his office at 4:30 p.m. The UN humanitarian chief made a five-day visit to the North last week. The Vice Minister and the UN top official are expected to assess the food situation in North Korea and discuss humanitarian aid.
Tomorrow, Vice Minister Uhm is due to attend an academic conference hosted by Korean Association of Area Studies to deliver a congratulatory speech. The theme of the conference is “Post Kim Jong-il Regime and the Korean Peninsula.”
On Friday, the Vice Minister is slated to take part in a seminar hosted by Soongsil University and Sarang Community Church to give a congratulatory speech. The theme of the Seminar is “Tasks and Outlook for Achieving Unification and Restoring Churches and Pyongyang Soongsil School.”
