Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho meets with veterans in the field of diplomacy and security (April 8)

On April 8, Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho invided veterans in the field of diplomacy and security to a luncheon to discuss ideas on drawing up a new unification discourse.

* Attendees: Lee Sang Woo (president of the New Asia Research Institute), La Jong Il (honorary chair professor at Dongguk University), Kim Hak Joon (president of Incheon National University)

During the luncheon, Minister Kim conveyed that he has been gathering opinions from experts across all social standings and the public regarding the new discourse on unification.

Minister Kim stressed that amidst the changing unification landscape, marked by the worsening nuclear and human rights situations in North Korea, the two Koreas rhetoric made by the North, the deepening fluidity of the international political landscape, and the decline in awareness of unification among the young generation, the new discourse on unification must “embody unwavering values and principles.”

Furthermore, Minister Kim mentioned that the new unification discourse must also encompass the “future-oriented vision” and the global significance and role of unification in contributing to the peace and prosperity of the world.

To this end, Minister Kim stated that the South Korean government will “broadly listen to and reflect the opinions of the people, including experts from all walks of life and the young generation, and the international community to promote discourse on unification with the public.
