Korea’s notification to cancel the South-North joint culture event
at Mt. Geumgang
North Korea notified its plan to cancel the joint culture event
agreed to be held at Mt. Geumgang on February 4, through a letter
under the name of North Korea’s chief delegate for the inter-Korean
high-level talks today(1.29) at around 10:10 P.M.
In the letter, North Korea stated that it has no choice but to
cancel the agreed culture event as South Korean media is spreading
public opinion insulting the North’s sincere efforts regarding the
PyeongChang Winter Olympics and is taking issue with North Korea’s
internal commemoration event.
It is greatly regrettable that an event agreed by the South and
North will not be held due to North Korea’s unilateral notification.
The R.O.K. Government emphasizes that what is agreed upon by the
South and North under the spirit of mutual respect and understanding
must be implemented, especially when improving inter-Korean
relations has just taken its hard-earned first step.
