On August 13 and 17, the North Korean media
reported that Kim Jong Un provided field guidance at the Ungok Area
General Stock Farm; fish hatcheries to greatly increase production of
mandarin fish and other fish and to stock Lake Yonphung with them; the
construction site of the Wonsan-Kalma coastal tourist zone; and the
hot spring area in Yangdok County, South Pyeongan Province.
On August 17, the North Korean media reported that Premier Pak Pong
Ju gave field guidance at the Namyang Saltern and the Posan Iron Works.
On August 11, the North Korean media emphasized the role of the
“county” in economic development and improvement in the people’s
quality of life.
On August 13, the North Korean media highlighted the development of
science and technology for political and economic independence.
On August 14, the North Korean media encouraged the people to
fulfill the five-year plan for national economic growth through the
campaign to increase production.
On August 16, the North Korean media reported on the hosting of the
Fourth International Youth U-15 Football Tournament.
【Inter-Korean Affairs】
On August 15 and 16, the North Korean
media reported that the Joint National Committee for the
Implementation of the June 15 Joint Declaration adopted a resolution.
On August 13, the North Korean media condemned the South Korean
Foreign Minister’s remarks on North Korea that sanctions on Pyeongyang
should remain in place until the North is completely denuclearized (in
her interview with The Strait Times on August 2).
On August 16, the North Korean media reported that the North’s basic
position is that the Panmunjeom Declaration should be implemented
independently by the Korean nation.
On August 14, the North Korean media reported on the second
high-level inter-Korean talks to carry out the Panmunjeom Declaration.
On August 13, the North Korean media reported on the inter-Korean
workers’ soccer games.
【Foreign Affairs】
On August 11, the North Korean media
reported that the DPRK permanent mission to the UN Office and
international organizations in Geneva, in a press release, denounced
the remarks by the UN Secretary General that he fully supported the
negotiations taking place “with the objective that we all share, to
see a total denuclearization that is verifiable, that is
irreversible,” (in a joint press conference with Japanese Prime
Minister Abe on August 8).
On August 17, the North Korean media argued that the US should have
sense of responsibility and obligation for the declaration of an end
to the war.
On August 14, the North Korean media reported that the Korean
Committee on Measures for the Sexual Slavery for Imperial Japanese
Army and Drafting Victims, in a survey report on the basis of the
testimonies of Sumie Nakamura, a Japanese woman who witnessed the
operation of a “comfort station” by the Japanese army in then
Kyonghung-myeon, Kyonghung County of North Hamgyeong Province,
maintained that the Korean people will surely force Japan to take the
responsibility for redeeming itself for the past.
On August 15, the North Korean media reported that the leaders of
the DPRK and Russia exchanged congratulatory messages to celebrate the
73rd anniversary of Korea’s liberation.
