3. Q&A (Extract)

Q. The ROK-U.S. alliance dialogue seems to be in dispute – does the Unification Ministry have a position on this?

A. We ask for you to direct your question to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is in charge of the issue. The Unification Ministry does not have anything to comment on this matter.

Q. Breaking its silence, North Korea’s propaganda website Meari denounced ROK-U.S. alliance talks and took issue with defense talks between Seoul and Washington. What is the Ministry’s evaluation of such recent moves?

A. As mentioned repeatedly, the government does not provide evaluations about claims made by North Korean propaganda outlets.

Q. The news of a North Korean defector caught while trying to cross back into the North circulated over the weekend. Is the Unification Ministry aware of any details regarding the case, for example why the defector was trying to return?

A. As investigation regarding this issue is underway, we will wait and see how the results turn out. If necessary, we will discuss with related agencies and take necessary measures.
