On October 18, Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho met with German
Ambassador to South Korea, Georg Schmidt, to exchange views on the
Korean Peninsula issues and North Korean policies.
Expressing his hopes that South Korea and Germany, celebrating the
140th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, will deepen
mutual cooperation, Minister Kim explained the Korean government’s
policy directions on North Korea’s denuclearization, the promotion of
human rights in North Korea, and unification preparation based on the
liberal democratic order, and asked for the German government’s
cooperation and support.
Moreover, Minister Kim shared concerns about the recent North
Korea-Russia military cooperation and forced repatriation of North
Korean defectors, and called on the German government and the EU to
pay attention to the issue of forced repatriation of North Korean defectors.
Ambassador Schmidt expressed interest in the South Korean
government’s policy directions and said he would “strive to expand
friendly cooperation between the two countries in the future.”
