On June 28, Unification Minister Kwon Youngse delivered
congratulatory remarks at the 10th Day of Remembrance for Victims of
Abductions by North Korea During the Korean War held to commemorate
their sacrifices and acknowledge the agony of their families.
Minister Kwon said, “The Korean War is the most painful memory for
all of our people.”
“During the Korean War, North Korea forcibly abducted and is
detaining over 100,000 South Koreans, which is a deed against human
rights and humanity that cannot be justified by any means,” he added.
Moreover, Minister Kwon stated that “the Yoon administration is
making its utmost efforts to address humanitarian issues, including
issues on abductees, detainees, and prisoners of war, based on the
universal values of freedom and human rights.”
“We will confirm the commitment of the international community to
resolve the abductions issue in North Korea and drive to bring about a
responsible change in North Korea’s behavior through the ROK-U.S. and
ROK-U.S.-Japan summits, and UN human rights resolutions,” he emphasized.
