Vice Unification Minister Chun Hae-sung met with Susan Thornton,
acting US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific
Affairs, at the Central Government Complex in Seoul on April 23. They
discussed inter-Korean issues including the preparations for the
upcoming inter-Korean summit meeting.
Vice Minister Chun said
that the ROK government will discuss denuclearization and
establishment of lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula, and
development in inter-Korean relations at the inter-Korean summit.
Susan Thornton expressed hope for success in the inter-Korean
summit and asked South Korea to continue to cooperate with the US as
it is presently doing.
In response, Minister Chun emphasized
that South Korea will work closely together with the US to ensure that
the North Korea-US summit meeting, to be held after the inter-Korean
summit, will be a success.
