Peace and Prosperity on the Korean Peninsula – The leaders of the two Koreas hold hands

ROK President Moon Jae-in and North Korean State Affairs Committee Chairman Kim Jong Un met for a historic summit at the military demarcation line in Panmunjeom at 9:30 a.m. on April 27.

When North Korean leader Kim appeared in front of the Panmun Pavilion on the North Korean side of the border, President Moon, after waiting in front of the Freedom House on the South Korean side of the border, moved toward the military demarcation line.

The two heads of state met at the military demarcation line and shook hands with each other.

North Korean leader Kim was invited by President Moon to cross the military demarcation line into the South. The two leaders posed for a photo while facing the Panmun Pavilion and for another photo while facing the Freedom House.

Then, in an impromptu move, Kim encouraged Moon to step briefly across the demarcation line into North Korea for a commemorative photo.

After the photo session, the two leaders crossed back into the South and Kim was handed a bouquet of flowers by a South Korean boy and girl, fifth graders at Daeseongdong Elementary School in the border town of Daeseong-dong, which is the only South Korean village within the DMZ.

The welcome by children means, “Let’s open a new era.” A number of leaders including US President Donald Trump, who visited South Korea last year, had also been welcomed by children previously. The two heads of state also posed for a photo with the two children.
