On August 22, members of separated families had farewell meetings at
the banquet hall on the second floor of the Mount Kumgang Hotel from
10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Although the farewell reunions were originally
planned to continue two hours including lunch, the time was extended
to three hours to soothe the sorrow of parting.
They, saddened by separation, did not let go of each other’s hands
and embraced each other. They had their last meals together and said
goodbye to each other. When they said, “Let’s meet again” or “Stay
healthy,” their eyes were filled with tears.
Now, the members of separated families, who had brief reunions of
three days and two nights, will leave Mt. Geumgang and return to the South.
On August 23, another group of people will gather in Sokcho for a
second round of reunions (August 24-26).
