President Moon ratified the Pyeongyang Joint Declaration and the
Agreement on the Implementation of the Historic Panmunjeom Declaration
in the Military Domain at the 45th cabinet meeting
The 45th cabinet meeting was held at the Sejong Room in the main
building of Cheong Wa Dae. The outcome of President Moon Jae-in’s
European tour was presented, and the September Pyeongyang Joint
Declaration and the Agreement on the Implementation of the Historic
Panmunjom Declaration in the Military Domain were ratified.
President Moon explained the outcome of his tour to Europe by
saying, “Whenever I travel overseas, I realize how much the stature of
our country has risen I was able to secure broad support for the peace
… process on the Korean Peninsula.” “The Vatican and the Pope fully
support our efforts, and the pontiff expressed his willingness to
visit Pyeongyang,” he added.
With regard to the September Pyeongyang Joint Declaration and the
Agreement on the Implementation of the Historic Panmunjom Declaration
in the Military Domain deliberated and resolved on that day, he said,
“They are not just the way to protect the Korean people but also
helpful to the economy in that they eliminate the crisis factors on
the Korean Peninsula.” He then asked government departments to work
together to ensure the smooth implementation of the ratified agreements.
Although the Panmunjeom Declaration has yet to be ratified by the
National Assembly, the two agreements were resolved on that day at the
cabinet meeting for the consensus and best interests of the people
because they are just declarations that state the principle and
direction of initiatives; they set forth no specific funding requirements.
