Unification Minister Cho returns from five-day trip to the US
Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon returned from his five-day trip
to the US including New York City and Washington, D.C. on November 18.
Minister Cho met with key figures in the US government and Congress
including US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Congressman Ed Royce,
chair of the US House Foreign Relations Committee, and discussed the
Korean Peninsula issues. He also visited the Center for Strategic and
International Issues (CSIS), a Washington-based think tank, and had a
meeting with experts in the Korean Peninsula issues.
The Unification Minister delivered a keynote speech at the 2018
Korea Global Forum held at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for
Scholars in Washington and hosted by the Ministry of Unification. He
took part in a meeting with overseas Koreans in New York and expounded
on the government’s policy on North Korea and inter-Korean relations today.
“I have talked a great deal with the US about the overall situation
regarding the denuclearization of North Korea, inter-Korean relations,
and establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula,” Minister Cho told
reporters at Incheon International Airport on November 18. “We shared
the view that the denuclearization of North Korea and establishment of
peace on the Korean Peninsula should be realized through close
cooperation between the ROK and the US.”
