Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon participated in a meeting with representatives of the German Association of Displaced People held at the AW Convention Center in Jongno-gu, Seoul on February 25.

Regarding the achievements made last year in the separated family issues, he said that “Only one family reunion was held last year, and this was far short of the separated families’ expectations. Fortunately, inter-Korean relations have since been restored and the government is doing everything it can to address the issues of displaced people.”

Minister Cho went on to say that “Although it has been over 70 years since the Korean Peninsula was divided, separated family members are still not yet able to check whether their relatives are still alive, let alone exchange letters with them.

The government will do its best to make substantial progress in the issues of separated families this year,” expressing its determination to address the issues.

The meeting was attended by four representatives of the German Association of Displaced People including Bernd Fabritius, the commissioner for German expatriates and national minority affairs, as well as representatives of other organizations of displaced people including Chairman Park Seong-jae of the Committee for the Five Northern Korean Provinces and Chairman Kim Han-geuk of the Central Federation of Natives of North Korean Provinces.
