The Way Forward Toward Peace on the Korean Peninsula (at the ceremony
marking the 12th anniversary of the October 4 Declaration)
On October 4, 2007, the leaders of South and North Korea met and
reached the October 4 Declaration a more specific and substantial –
pledge – as a result of carrying on the spirit of the June 15 Joint Declaration.
At the 63 Convention Center on October 4, the ceremony marking the
12th anniversary of the October 4 Declaration was held under the theme
of “The Way Forward Toward Peace on the Korean Peninsula.” At a
symposium held before the ceremony, people from all levels of society
discussed ways to implement the October 4 Declaration and ways to
reach an agreement on denuclearization in the negotiations between
North Korea and the US.
Unification Minister Kim Yeon Chul declared, “The government will do
its best to ensure that the South and the North sit face-to-face with
each other next year to remember the spirit of the October 4
Declaration and discuss a new future.”
The government will continue to strive to implement the declarations
agreed between the leaders of the two Koreas.
