On November 26, a forum
to discuss the Seoul-Pyeongyang joint bid for the 2032 Summer Olympic
Games was held at The Westin Chosun Seoul.
Participants from appropriate government agencies and experts from
all quarters gathered to present a vision for a future of peace on the
Korean Peninsula that the Seoul-Pyeongyang joint bid for the Olympics
would bring. They also considered a new vision of the future from
various perspectives, including inter-city exchange between Seoul and
Pyeongyang that can be carried out during the preparations for the Olympics.
Unification Minister Kim Yeon Chul, in his speech, said, “The seeds
of peace and prosperity sown by the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics will be
in full bloom by the 2032 Olympics co-hosted by Seoul and Pyeongyang…
Seoul and Pyeongyang co-hosting the 2032 Summer Olympic Games would
indelibly mark the beginning of a new era of inter-Korean exchange in
sports and stand as the first model of inter-city exchange, thus
leading to wider, deeper inter-Korean relations of a vastly different
character than before.”
This forum was co-hosted by the Ministry of Unification, the
Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the Seoul Metropolitan
Government, and the Korean Sports & Olympic Committee.
