The KINU (Korea Institute for National Unification) Research Festival
was held at the Westin Chosun Seoul on December 12.
The festival shared with the public some key findings of research
conducted by KINU this past year to build consensus on North Korea policy.
Unification Minister Kim Yeon Chul, in his congratulatory speech,
said, “With less than a month away from 2020, everyone needs to make
an effort to ensure effective management of the situation going
forward and to make substantial progress. We must not allow a repeat
of the crisis in 2017 when the situation became critical and
threatened to descend into war.” He emphasized, “One needs to put
oneself into the other’s shoes and assume a new mindset” to resolve
the impasse on the Korean Peninsula.
Minister Kim declared the festival to be a significant event and
stated that the government will hear the voices of people from all
levels of society and reflect them into policy to both make North
Korea policy more effective and to build public consensus on it.
