On April 6, Unification Minister Kim Yeon Chul visited Panmunjeom and
the Paju section of the DMZ Peace Trails along with officials
concerned in order to check overall matters regarding the resumption
of visits to Panmunjeom and creating a cultural space for peaceful unification.
Minister Kim had lunch with the heads of villages near Panmunjeom,
including Daeseongdong, Tongilchon, and Haemaruchon, and heard their
opinions. Local residents informed him that the regional economy had
suffered as a result of the suspension of peace and security tourism
in Paju and urged him to resume tourism as soon as possible.
While duly considering the opinions of local residents and taking
thorough measures to combat the ongoing pandemic in cooperation with
appropriate agencies, the Ministry of Unification will indeed prepare
to resume tourism to the Paju section of the DMZ Peace Trails and to
create a cultural space for peaceful unification.
