Unification Minister Lee meets with US Ambassador to the ROK Harry Harris
On August 18, Unification Minister Lee In-young met with US
Ambassador to the ROK Harry Harris, who made a courtesy visit to the
Minister Lee expounded his vision to develop inter-Korean relations
into a ‘community of peace, economy and life’ through humanitarian
cooperation including food and medical aid and reunions of separated
families, small-scale trading, and implementing the inter-Korean agreements.
He stated once again that the ROK’s basic position is to carry out
policy by reorganizing the ROK-US working group and separating what it
can do on its own from what can be discussed at the working group. The
Unification Minister emphasized that the two sides should upgrade the
working group into ‘version 2.0’ so that it can facilitate improvement
in inter-Korean relations and establishment of peace on the Korean Peninsula.
The two sides shared the view that it is important to stably manage
the situation on the Korean Peninsula and reaffirmed that both
countries should closely work together to resume dialogue between the
two Koreas and between the US and North Korea as soon as possible.
