The second-term Unification Future Planning Committee draws up a new vision for unification that encapsulates the philosophy of liberalism

The Ministry of Unification establishes the second-term Unification Future Planning Committee and holds its inaugural meeting (March 15)

On March 15, the Ministry of Unification held the inauguration ceremony and the first plenary meeting of the second-term Unification Future Planning Committee, with Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho in attendance.

New figures, including North Korean defectors, the youth, and foreigners, have joined the second-term committee to facilitate discussions on the new unification vision from various angles.

* The Unification Future Planning Committee: An advisory body to the Minister of Unification established in March 2023, aimed at preparing a unified future based on private-public cooperation. It operates five subcommittees (politics and military affairs, economy, social and cultural affairs, human rights and humanitarian affairs, and international cooperation).

During the meeting, Unification Minister Kim Yung Ho emphasized the vision of a unified Korean Peninsula as a means to realize “liberalism,” citing President Yoon Suk Yeol’s commemorative address on March First Independence Movement Day. He further outlined his intention to craft a new vision of unification that encapsulates the essence of the commemorative address and reflects the philosophy of liberalism. This initiative, he affirmed, would be pursued in collaboration with the second-term Unification Future Planning Committee.

Additionally, Minister Kim stressed, “The new unification vision should provide hope to North Korean residents through the spread of freedom and human rights and should be a direction for the international community to cooperate with responsibility as it is a universal issue, rallying national will towards a ‘free and unified Republic of Korea.’”

Moreover, Minister Kim urged the committee to play a pivotal role in the matter.
