North Korea began to pay special attention to enhancing
its meteorological capabilities in the mid-1990s. It sought to acquire
sophisticated equipment from countries like China, South Korea and Great
Britain. The North also received funds from international organizations such as
the WMO (World Meteorological Organization) to improve its meteorological
expertise.
As a result, North Korea's capablities in meteorological
technology has made a significant progress. For the first time, the North is
capable of forecasting the amount of expected rainfalls and providing more
specific information in other areas as well.
However, North's progress was limited and that it has yet
to modernize many aspects of its meteorological
systems. |
