South Korean vessels loaded with equipment and materials for inter-Korean railway and road construction work left Incheon for Haeju on the west coast and Sokcho for Jangjeon on the east coast, respectively, on October 19.

The cargo is valued at one billion won and contained bulldozers, excavators, welding rods and 20 other types of equipment and heavy tools. The load was the first batch of equipment to be provided to the North in the form of a loan under a South-North Korean agreement for trans-border rail and road projects.

The boats arrived at their destinations a few hours after embarking. A number of South Korean engineers and technicians accompanied the cargo to oversee the proper operation of the equipment, which bear "Republic of Korea" markings on each crate and to supervise the use of materials and equipment.
