The unification ministry in a comment Tuesday (May 27) expressed regret over North Korea's repeated references, through its media outlets, of "disaster" in South Korea as well as anti-Seoul denunciations.
The anti-Seoul move has been continuing despite North Korea's explanation about the "disaster" uttered during the fifth meeting of the Inter-Korean Economic Cooperation Promotion Committee. In clarifying, the North said the remarks were made "in hopes that both the South and the North could do well without facing misfortune."
The ministry's spokesman said North Korea must clearly recognize that utterances that may provoke the other party and cause misunderstanding are neither conducive to the inter-Korean relationship nor in keeping with the spirit of the June 15, 2000, South-North Joint Declaration.
The spokesman said the South Korean government will continue to try to make progress in inter-Korean relations based on "principle and trust," as well as mutual respect.
