Results of the 2nd Working-level Contact on the Dispatch South-North Cheering Squad for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games

The 2nd working-level contact on the sending of a South-North cheering squad for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games was held in Gaeseong on Feb. 4, 2008.

During the talks, the two sides consulted on the size of the joint cheering squad and the use of train to carry the squad, and adopted the Agreement on the Dispatch of the South-North Cheering Squad for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Major Agreements

1. The joint cheering squad will consist of 300 people including assistant staff, and the South and the North will send 150 people, respectively, in the first and second half of the Olympic period.

2. The cheering squad will attend the opening and closing ceremonies, and the types of games where the South and the North will jointly cheer will be selected after finalizing which Olympic games South and North Korean players will participate to compete.

3. The two sides will consult and determine on what types of cheering songs, uniforms, tools and methods will be used.

4. The South and North Korean Olympic Committees will inform the Beijing Olympic Organization Committee of the size of the cheering squad, and consult and decide on the reservation and purchase of tickets for the opening and closing ceremonies.

5. Matters regarding the schedule, operation and use of a train to carry the joint cheering squad will continue to be consulted.

6. The 3rd working-level contact will be held at the Inter-Korean Economic Cooperation Consultation Office in Gaeseong at a convenient time.

With the agreement on the size of the squad, the two sides has taken the first step toward sending the South-North cheering squad to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games by using a train on the Gyeongui line.

The South and the North will continue consulting on ways of train use, types of train, and cheering methods which they have failed to agree on this time.
