Inter-Korean
Trade Volume in the First Qtr of 08 increased 50% from a year earlier
*Inter-Korean
trade volume in the first quarter of 2008 amounted to 417.28 million dollars,
up 50% from 278.12 million dollars of the same period in the previous
year.
Gaeseong Industrial Complex (GIC)-related
trade such as inbound products including textiles and transfer of factory
equipments reached 162.93 million dollars, a 91% growth from the previous year.
Processing on commission trade including clothing and radio cassette increased significantly
by 43% to 93.77 million dollars.
General trade including inbound minerals,
agricultural, forestry and fishery products rose slightly to 100 million
dollars, up 4% from the same period last year.
The major factor behind the rise in the
inter-Korean trade is the increase in commercial trade, which accounts for 96%
of inter-Korean trade. The commercial trade increased 53% year-on-year from
260.94 million dollars to 398.9 million dollars.
* The
government and private aid towards North Korea declined 20%.

commission trade, Gaeseong Industrial Complex s productive activities, is
expected to continue after April, 2008 despite recent changes in inter-Korean
relations.
