Trial production of containers by dislocated North Koreans started (June 16, 2008)
Mezzanine Pack, a container manufacturer in Paju established by Merry Year Foundation to hire dislocated North Koreans, will start its first trial production on June 16.
The trial production has been made possible thanks to a pact on job creation for dislocated North Koreas signed on April 18, 2008 by Hanawon of the Ministry of Unification, Mezzanine Foodtec and Merry Year Foundation. After a two-week on-the-job training, seventeen North Korean defectors were finally selected to be assigned to the company.
Mezzanine Pack plans to hire ten additional North Korean refugees by July and continuously create jobs for dislocated North Koreans by establishing the second and third factories.
If the plan is successfully carried out, Mezzanin Pack will be certified as social enterprise in accordance with the Law on fostering social enterprises of the Ministry of Labor, and will develop into a company which provides stable employment for North Korean defectors and is run by dislocated North Koreans themselves.
