A pact on customized job training and mediation for North Korean defectors signed (June 16, 2008)
The Ministry of Unification (Hanawon), the Ministry of Labor (Seobu Branch of Seoul Regional Ministry of Republic of Korea), Yerim Vocational Training Institute, and Gemopia Jewelry Co., LTD held a signing ceremony on June 17 at Yerim Vocational Training Institute to conclude the pact on customized job training and mediation to create jobs for dislocated North Koreans.
Under this pact, the Unification Ministry is in charge of providing administrative support, the Ministry of Labor offers financial support, Yerim Institute takes charge of vocational training, and Gemopia Jewelry will hire dislocated North Koreans.
The vocational training is a six-month program. Hanawon offers one month of training and Yerim Vocational Training Institute will provide five-month program for 15 North Korean defectors beginning the end of June, 2008. The training course covers jewelry design.
*The North Korean defectors who complete this course and acquire certain qualifications will be hired by jewelry companies including Gemopia Jewelry.
This is the second pact following the first one reached with CJ Foodvill in December 2007. The pact is expected to contribute to job creation for and stable resettlement of dislocated North Koreans.
