Spokesperson s Commentary (July 10)
l Tomorrow marks the anniversary of the shooting incident of a South Korean tourist at the Mt. Geumgang Tourism Area.
l We once again pray for the soul of the dead who departed from this life due to tragic accident and express our genuine condolences to the bereaved.
- We also express our regret over that the suspension of the Mt. Geumgang Tourism Project has caused difficulties for relevant companies and local citizens in the area including Goseong-gun.
l The ROK government has proposed North Korea numerous times to hold inter-Korean government-level negotiations in order to find out the actual truths of the affair, to prevent such an incident from being repeated and to establish safety-guaranteeing measures, and, eventually, in order to bring a closure to the case and resume the tourism project.
- The North, however, has not responded to our proposal up until now that one year has passed since the incident.
l In commemoration of the shooting incident, the ROK government urges the North to show some sincere gesture and to come to the table without delay for inter-Korean negotiations to address the issue.
