Regarding Imjin River Flood (September 8)
On September 7, the DPRK authority delivered the ROK government a notification signed by a relevant authority, explaining that the North discharged river water from the 5th evening to the 6th morning from the upper reaches of the Imjin River for emergency reasons and guaranteeing that it will notify us beforehand when they need to discharge significant amount of water.
The ROK government cannot accept the notification as a proper explanation and expresses deep regret over that the North failed to mention the loss of the lives of Korean citizens.
The ROK government demands the North Korean authority s proper explanation and an apology for the loss of the lives of our citizens caused by the North s water discharge without notice.
In order to prevent a recurrence, we will review inter-Korean consultation for and damage prevention and systemized joint use of the watercourses stretched throughout the North and the South.
