l      On March 22, the Government approved an excavation plan that would be jointly conducted by North and South Korea this year as an inter-Korean social and cultural cooperation project. To support the plan, the Government would provide around 280 million won from the Inter-Korean Cooperation Fund. The project is to dig out the ruins of Manwoldae Palace, an ancient royal palace in Gaeseong.

The operator is a council of historians from the two Koreas but the work has been led by the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage.

l      Until now, the 6,600 square meters of land has been digged out and the sites for 29 large buildings including an old meeting hall and around 4,500 relics have been found.
