The Ministry of Unification opened a Facebook account

 

The Ministry became the first central government department to open Facebook and Flickr accounts on Tuesday, July 27.

 

l      Facebook will allow us to have interactive communications with the public.

 

- In particular, the Ministry s Facebook fan page will be set up and people can post anything on it.

 

* Facebook Account: www.facebook.com/unikorea

 

* As of July 2010, the number of Facebook users was 500 million around the world and more than 1.1 million in Korea. The Korea s Facebook subscription growth rate was 73% in the last three months which was the highest in the world. (Source: O Reilly Research)

 

l      Flicker will allow us to show photos to share the future vision for the unified Korea.

 

- The contents boosting young generations interest in unification will be selected.

 

* Flickr Account: www.flickr.com/photos/uni_kr

 

Connecting them to our existing social media channels including the Ministry blog will enable us to establish a comprehensive communication channel.

 

l      Running mutually-linked media channels can create a synergy effect.

 

- A widget and a link button will be put on the blog named A Dream for Unification .

 

* The Ministry opened a Twitter account at the www.twitter.com/uni_kr on June 30. As of July 27, it had 1,162 followers and 459 tweets.

 

Plan

 

l      When it comes to March for Peace and Unification, an event to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Korean War,

 

-               The launching ceremony on July 27 will be broadcast live via Facebook Livestream.

 

-               Twitter will deliver real-time news from the event.

 

l      Contents such as videos and photos to be posted on Facebook and Flickr will be developed.

 

l      Facebook Livestream will also broadcast live our major events in the future.

 

Taking advantage of various social media channels will help us communicate directly with young people, get voices and feedback from the public and share our position on current issues.
