The Inter-Korean Cooperation Fund to support flood relief to North Korea
The Government had the 235th consultative meeting on promotion of inter-Korean exchanges and cooperation, which was chaired by the Minister of Unification from September 20(Monday) to 28(Tuesday). The council deliberated through letters over financing flood aid to North Korea with money from the Inter-Korean Cooperation Fund and put it to a vote on September 29.
l The Government decided to provide financial support to South Korea s Red Cross for buying and delivering the aid materials.
- The humanitarian group planed to send 5,000 tones of rice, 10,000 tones of cement and 3 million cups of ramen to North Korea to help its citizens recover from the flood hit during July and August.
l The total amount of money financed is going to be 13.9 billion won including 10 billion won for purchasing aid goods, 3.6 billion won for delivery and other expenses and 0.3 billion for reserves. The Fund will support 8.6 billion won and the rest of money will go from a special account of the Government s budget to manage supply and demand of rice.
l The aid goods will be sent to Sinuiju via Dandong.
