North Korea Proposes a Meeting on
Resumption of Mt. Geumgang Tourism
□ On January 12th, North Korea proposed a meeting on the resumption of Mt. Geumgang tourism and a working-level meeting on Kaesong Industrial District through Kaesong Industrial District Management Committee.
□ First, the North sent a communication under the name of Tourist Site Development Bureau to Ministry of Unification. The communication called for a meeting on February 11th in Kaesong to resume Mt. Geumgang tourism.
□ Second, the North sent a communication under the name of Central Economic Special Zone Guidance Bureau to Ministry of Unification. The communication proposed to hold a working-level meeting regarding Kaesong Industrial District Project on February 9th in Kaesong.
□Third, the North sent a communication under the name of Inter-Korean Economic Cooperation Consultation Office. The communication expressed the North’s regret for the fact that South Korean workers did not return to the consultation office as well as requested to normalize the operation of the office.
□ On the spokesperson’s comment delivered on January 10th, Ministry of Unification already demonstrated its firm stance on the North’s proposal for talks.
□ South Korean government highlights its previous proposal for authorities-level talks. The South suggests talks to confirm the North’s commitment for 1) responsible measures for Cheonan Corvette sinking and the shelling of Yeonpyong Island 2) sincerity of denuclearization.
