The Status of Promoting 2007 South-North Korean Summit (Briefing by Unification Minister)
Minister of Unification Lee Jae-joung gave a briefing on September 22 and explained the result of the 9th meeting of the Preparation and Planning Office for the summit, and the current status of promoting the summit.
The Meeting of the Preparation and Planning Office
As of September 22, 9 rounds of the meeting were held in total and around 31 agendas were reported and discussed. At the 9th meeting, the result of the activities by the 1st advance team was reported and follow-up measures were discussed.
Minister Lee said the meeting of the Preparation and Planning Office is playing a pivotal role in preparing the summit and designation of attendants and special envoys is being conducted in a legal and transparent way according to the Act on Development of Inter-Korean Relations.
Around two rounds of meeting of the Preparation and Planning Office is scheduled from now on, said Minister Lee.
Collecting Public Opinions on the Summit
Minister Lee said collecting public opinions on the summit was conducted around 78 times and they served as good reference in preparing the summit.
Status of Preparing the Summit
Minister Lee said the list of general attendants is almost completed and it is planned to inform the North of the lists of the entire attendants and reporters before September 25.
In addition, the 2nd advance team will visit the North from September 27 to October 1 and during the period left, more systematic activity plan will be made based on the result of activity by the 1st team.
