Inter-Korean Trade Volume reached a record-high of 1.79 billion dollars in 2007

Inter-Korean trade volume in 2007 totaled 1.79 billion dollars, up 33% from 1.34 billion dollars of the previous year

Inter-Korean trade started in 1989 and it surpassed 1 billion dollars in 2005

In 2007, it recorded an all-time high of 1.7 billion dollars

Commercial trade totaled 1.43117 billion dollars, up 54% from 928.07 million dollars of the previous year,

Non-commercial trade reached 366.72 million dollars, down 13% from 421.66 million dollars of the previous year

The increase of commercial trade is attributable to the growth of ordinary trade (52%) led by mineral and fishery products, the rise in transfer of raw and subsidiary materials and products (48%) following the additional operation of businesses at Gaseong Industrial Complex (GIC), and the increase inprocessing-on-commission trade including clothing (30%).

Compared to 2006, the trade increased as follows: sand 53.673 104.636 million dollars, anthracite 621 14.469 million dollars, pig iron 261 21.198 million dollars, aluminum lumps 591 12.985 million dollars, GIC-related textiles 13.451 67.422 million dollars

This upward trend is expected to continue thanks to the growth of domestic demand for and import of North Korean mineral and fishery products as well as to the increase in productive activity in the wake of improvement of passage, communication, and customs clearance issues in GIC and the increase in the number of tenant companies in the GIC.
