On April 18 Friday, a pact on job creation for dislocated North Koreans was signed by the Hanawon of the Ministry of Unification, Mezzanine Foodtec, a beverage company and Merry Year Foundation, a volunteer organization focusing education, job creation and microfinance for marginalized people.
According to the pact, the foundation will establish Mezzanine Pack, a social purpose enterprise where North Korean refugees will make beverage containers. In the meantime, Mezzanine Foodtec will procure its package from Mezzanine Pack to ensure a stable flow of order for the package producer and the Ministry of Unification will serve as an intermediary link between the North Korean job seekers and the factory.
When the factory is completed by mid-May, around 20 North Koreans will begin working there, presenting a job-creation model for dislocated North Koreans.
