Preliminary results of inter-agency inspection
of the Mt. Geumgang incident
The Ministry of Unification-led inter-agency inspection team of the fatal incident occurred at Mt. Geumgang disclosed its findings of inspection on July 25.
Major findings are as follows:
- According to the analysis of closed-circuit television recordings, a South Korean tourist, Ms. Park, Wang-ja left the Mt. Geumgang Family Beach Hotel where she stayed the previous night at around 04:18 a.m. on July 11.
- It was presumed that she was shot dead 200 meters toward Gisaeng Rock away from the fence standing at the boundary between the Mt. Geumgang tour district and the North s military zone, which does not correspond to the account the North gave to Hyundai Asan.
- According to the accounts of witnesses and related photos, she was shot to death before 05:16 a.m. on the same day.
