The International Conference on the 60th Anniversary of the National Foundation
The International Conference on the 60th Anniversary of the National Foundation was held at Plaza Hotel, Seoul, on September 9 under the themes of vision for East Asia and the Korean Peninsula and the cooperative measures for the implementation.
The conference was hosted by the Korea Institute for National Unification and sponsored by the Ministry of Unification and Chosun Ilbo.
Minister Kim Ha-joong of Unification gave a keynote speech titled Significance and Implementation of the Policy of Mutual Benefits and Common Prosperity, presenting the visions for creating community for peace, community for common prosperity and community for happiness, the three objectives of the policy of mutual interests and common prosperity. He also said that the ROK will pursue mutual benefits and common prosperity in its relations with North Korea while firmly maintaining its principles.
Minister Kim emphasized that the two Koreas jointly respond to the pressing issues such as humanitarian issue and economic cooperation through unconditional dialogue.
At the first session of the conference, speeches under the theme of Vision for East Asia and the Korean Peninsula in the 21st Century by China, Japan, Russia and the U.S. were made by Professor William Brown of George Washington University, Professor Inoguchi Takashi of Juno University, Executive Director Pan Zhenqiang of the Chinese Reform and Open Forum and Director Alexander Panov of the Russian Diplomatic Academy.
At the second session, discussions were made under the theme of Lee Myung-bak Administration s Vision for East Asia and the Korean Peninsula.
