Ministry of Unification’s Statement
North Korea’s prohibition regarding the entry of the South Korean workers to the Gaeseong Industrial Complex(GIC) today is creating a serious barrier to the stable operation of the GIC.
In order to promote investment in North Korea as North Korea itself hopes, it is necessary for North Korea to build trust not only with the South, but also with the international community. Furthermore, North Korea should be more predictable.
If North Korea does not normalize the passage to and from the GIC in spite of all this, not only will inter-Korean relations be negatively affected but North Korea will invoke greater criticism and isolation from the international community.
Therefore, the Korean government expresses deep regret regarding North Korea’s prohibition of the entry of the South Korean workers to the GIC and we urge North Korea to immediately normalize the entry and exit of the South Korean workers to and from the GIC.
