Unification Minister’s Statement
The Korean government deeply regrets that North Korea is repeatedly making provocative threats to South Korea and the international community and we strongly urge North Korea not to build up further crisis on the Korean Peninsula.
North Korea should now refrain from engaging in actions that break peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in Northeast Asia and act as a responsible member of the international society.
The suspension of operations at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex(GIC), which is a symbol of inter-Korean reconciliation and cooperation is not helpful to the future of the nation as a whole, as it seriously hurts the tenant companies and the workers at the GIC. Hence, North Korea’s responsible measure is required.
Normalization of the GIC must be solved through dialogue and we hope the North Korean authorities come out to the dialogue table so that discussions can actually be held to address issues North Korea wishes to raise.
