R.O.K. government proposes inter-Korean governmental working-level talks on Gaeseong Industrial Complex(GIC)
Today(July 4th) the government of Republic of Korea(R.O.K.) delivered a notice under the name of Director-General of Inter-Korean Cooperation District Support Directorate to North Korea’s Director of the Special District General Bureau through the liaison officer at Panmunjeom.
The R.O.K. government proposed to hold inter-Korean governmental working-level talks either at Tongilgak or Peace House at Panmunjeom on July 6th.
The proposal comes taking into consideration that the operation at the GIC has been suspended for more than three months and the beginning of the rainy season will result in greater difficulties and damages for the tenant companies of the GIC.
In addition, the proposal was made based on our consistent stance that such problems can be solved only through inter-Korean governmental talks. The R.O.K. government has offered to hold inter-Korean governmental working-level talks to the North a number of times.
At this governmental working-level talks, issues such as inspections and maintenance of facilities and equipments, taking out the raw materials and finished products, and improved normalization of the GIC can be discussed.
From the R.O.K. side, a delegation of three representatives led by a Director-level official will attend the proposed talks.
