North Korea proposes to hold
family reunions on the occasion of the Lunar New Year
January 24, 2014
l
North Korea’s Red Cross proposed to hold family
reunions upon the Lunar New Year via the inter-Korean
communications channel at Panmunjeom this evening.
l
In the message, the North said “the family reunions
will be held at Mt. Geumgang as it had been agreed upon at the
Red Cross working-level meeting and the South can choose a
date for the event at its convenience after the Lunar New Year
when the weather thaws, considering the preparation period for
the event.”
-
Also, the North notified that further issues can be
negotiated through the Panmunjeom channel.
l
The R.O.K. government welcomes that North Korea
accepted our proposal to hold the family reunions though
belatedly. Specific issues such as the date of the family
reunions, consultation methods will be notified afterwards.
