□ Ministry of Unification briefed President Park Geun-hye on its 「2014 Work Plan」 and had a discussion session at the Ministry of National Defense on Thursday (Feb.6) at 10 A.M.
□ To activate the Trust-building Process on the Korean Peninsula in earnest for the “Korea Bonanza with Unification,” the Unification Ministry presented concrete projects and work plans.
o The Ministry will: △Promote agro-livestock and forestry cooperation by way of strengthening collaboration with international non-governmental organizations(NGOs) to ensure practical improvement in the livelihood of North Korean people, △establish ‘history foundation for peace and unification(tentatively named),’ △construct governance for peace and unification through cooperation between the government·private·research organizations.
o Through such endeavors, the Park Geun-hye administration in its second year will pave the way to open a unification era achieving tangible outcome on North Korea and unification policies that Koreans can personally experience.
□ Minister Ryoo Kihl-jae has set ‘paving the way for peace and unification through trust and cooperation’ as the policy objective and presented three major strategies to build the foundation for a unification era on the Korean Peninsula.
① Establish sustainable peace on the Korean Peninsula: On the basis of strong security, the Unification Ministry will strive to build trust through inter-Korean dialogue and cooperation. Also, by denuclearizing North Korea and building political and military trust with the North, we will build the foundation for peace.
② Activate the 「Trust-building Process on the Korean Peninsula」 in earnest: While making efforts to solve North Korean’s humanitarian issues, we will promote inter-Korean exchanges in ways that are mutually beneficial and helpful in recovering the homogeneity of the two sides.
③ Prepare for a Unification Era on the Korean Peninsula: We will transform our community into a ‘unification-friendly’ society by enhancing unification awareness. Also, we will build the foundation for unification internally and externally through a cooperative pan-governmental and pan-societal preparation system for unification.
□ Based on these three major strategies, the Unification Ministry plans to put forward nine core tasks in 2014.
