Unification Spokesperson’s Commentary
on Statement of North Korea's
'Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland'
July 1, 2016
■ North Korea made a preposterous claim yesterday(6.30) in a statement by its 'Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland,' praising its intermediate-range ballistic missile launch and asserting itself as a nuclear weapons state.
The R.O.K. and international community share a common position that North Korea cannot be acknowledged as a nuclear state.
■ The North's nuclear and missile development is an unlawful act that violates international standards and the United Nations Security Council Resolution. It also poses a grave threat toward peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and the international community.
■ North Korea should face up to the reality in which the international society is unanimously applying unprecedentedly strong pressure and sanctions for its denuclearization. Waking up from its illusion of being a nuclear state, the North should show its sincere will toward denuclearization through action.
■ North Korea will only face greater isolation if it cannot properly confront its current situation and continues with nuclear threats, while posing false proposals for peace and unification.
