R.O.K.
Government's Stance on Dismantlement of Punggyeri Nuclear Test Site
□
The ROKG expresses regrets that South Korean press corps were unable
to visit the North due to North Korea’s lack of follow-up measures
despite inviting them to the ceremony for dismantling Punggyeri
nuclear test site scheduled between May 23 and 25.
□
The Government reiterates that the purpose of the “Panmunjeom
Declaration” adopted between leaders of the South and the North, is
to end confrontations and hostilities of the past, and move toward a
new era of reconciliation, peace and prosperity by fulfilling all
inter-Korean agreements.
□
Nonetheless, the Government pays due attention to the fact that the
North’s pledge to dismantle the Punggyeri nuclear test site, an
initial measure for denuclearization, is proceeding as planned, and
expects that such action lead to the successful hosting of North
Korea-U.S. summit.
□
In line with the expectations that the North take practical measures
to achieve complete denuclearization and establish permanent peace
on the Korean Peninsula, the ROKG will continue to work together
through close inter-Korean and ROK-U.S. cooperations.
