Institute for Unification Education to
hold 2019 Junior Korean Unification Experts Fellowship

□ The Institute for Unification Education of the Ministry of
Unification will hold the 2019 Junior Korean Unification Experts
Fellowship(JKUEF) from July 4 to 21.
o In 2013, the Institute found the JKUEF program with the
objective of expanding international support for issues concerning
unification on the Korean Peninsula. A total of 117 experts and
scholars from various countries including the United States, China,
Japan, Russia, European Union, and Southeast Asia have participated in
the JKUEF between 2013 and 2018.
□ A total of 24 experts and scholars from 21 different countries
will take part in this year’s program. Participants will join in
lectures and discussions under the subject of ‘Peace and International
Cooperation on the Korean Peninsula.’
□ On July 19, an international conference on ‘Building a Peaceful
Korean Peninsula’ will be held in cooperation with the Korea Foundation.
o The seminar will be held under three sub-themes of ‘Initiative
for Building Peace on the Korean Peninsula,’ ‘Korea in the Shifting
East Asian Situation,’ ‘International Cooperation for Peace and
Denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.’ JKUEF participants will
lead the presentations and discussions.
□ Participants will also join other various programs including
field trips to Panmunjeom and Suwon Hwaseong Fortress.
□ The Institute for Unification Education seeks to deepen the
understanding of mid-career experts and scholars and spread
international consensus on the issue of peace and unification on the
Korean Peninsula through the 2019 JKUEF program.
