Statement by South’s chief representative
of the South-North Joint Liaison Office
June 16, 2020
The North’s unilateral decision to demolish the South-North Joint
Liaison Office today is an absurd act that should not have been made.
The ROKG expresses deep regret and strongly protests against the move,
which is unprecedented in inter-Korean relations.
Blowing up the Joint Liaison Office is a violation of the 2018
Panmunjom Declaration, and a one-sided abrogation of the Agreement on
the Organization and Management of the Liaison Office.
The demolition, which follows the North’s vulgar denunciations and
unilateral cutoff of communication lines, has shocked not only the
South Koreans, but also the entire global community.
In particular, the North took such action the day after the 20th
anniversary of June 15 Joint Declaration, forsaking the desire of all
those who wish for peace on the Korean Peninsula.
The North will have to take due responsibility for its action.
