Hanawon, the Korea Hana Foundation, and the Korea Suicide Prevention Center sign a
business agreement
- Building cooperation for the prevention of
suicide by North Korean
defectors and for the creation of a culture of respect for life –
□ On October 27, 2020, the Settlement Support Center for North
Korean Refugees (Hanawon headed by Lee Joo-tae) and the Korea Hana
Foundation (President Jung In-sung) under the Ministry of Unification
signed a business agreement on the prevention of suicide by North Korean defectors and
respect for life with the Korea Suicide Prevention Center (headed by
Paik Jong-woo).
o The heads of the three institutions participated in the signing
ceremony, which was very small-scale in compliance with enhanced
social distancing measures.
* The Korea Suicide
Prevention Center was established in April, 2012 in line with the Act
on the Prevention of Suicide
and the Creation of Culture of Respect for Life to prevent suicide and expand the culture of
respect for life nation-wide.
□ In the agreement, the three institutions agreed to cooperate for
the prevention of suicide by
North Korean defectors and the creation of a culture of respect for
life, including business cooperation and support for education on
suicide prevention; mutual
support for the prevention of suicide and the expansion of a
culture of respect for life; and exchange of contents and human
resources for education on suicide prevention.
o Hanawon will do its best to ensure that each and every North
Korean defector becomes a ‘life keeper’ and stably settles down in
society while working closely with the Korea Hana Foundation and the
Korea Suicide Prevention Center.
