Ministry of Unification to hold Korea
Global Forum for Peace, 2020 Korea – Europe Webinar for cooperation
between the Republic of Korea and European Countries for the
denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula
The Ministry of Unification will hold webinar with Korean and
European experts under the theme ‘DPRK’s Denuclearization and Way and
Prospect of Peace-building on the Korean Peninsula: focusing on the
role of the Europe’ with Korean and European experts between 11th to
13th November.
The webinar is held as part of Korea Global Forum for Peace 2020 and
will be hosted by the Ministry of Unification in cooperation with SOAS
University and the King’s College London.
Participants will review situation on the Korean Peninsula, and
discuss how the Republic of Korea and European Countries should
cooperate for the peace building on the Korean Peninsula through the
point of view of Europe’s Critical Engagement on North Korea.
The forum will start with opening remarks by Dr. Felix
Berenskoetter, Head of Department of Politics and International
Studies of the SOAS University, and Dr. Johnna Montgomerie, Head of
Department of European and International Studies, followed by
congratulatory remarks by the ROK Ambassador to the United Kingdom
Park Enna, the British Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Simon Smith
and Deputy Minister of Unification Policy Choi Young Joon.
The first session is on ‘DPRK’s Denuclearization and the Role of
Europe.’ Dr. Ramon Pacheco Pardo from King’s College London will be
the moderator with Former European Union Ambassador to ROK Michael
Reiterer, Professor Jun Bong-Geun of IFANS Korea, Dr. John
Nilsson-Wright of Chatham House and Dr. Kim Jina of Korea Institute
for Defense Analyses as panelists.
On the second day (12th Nov
18:00~19:30 KST), participants will discuss ‘Reality and Ways of
Peace-building on the Korean Peninsula’ which will be moderated by
Professor Tat Yan Kong of SOAS University. Dr. Niklas Wanstrom of ISDP
Sweden, Dr. Sung Kiyoung of Institute for National Security Strategy
Korea, Dr. Alice Ekman of European Union Institute for Security
Studies, and Professor Kim Ji Young of Institution for Unification
Education of the Ministry of Unification will join as panelists.
On the last day (13th Nov 18:00~19:30 KST), Swedish Ambassador to
the Republic of Korea Jakob Hallgren will moderate the session on
‘Prospect of Peace-building on the Korean Peninsula and the Role of
Europe,’ with panelists including Lisa Pelletti Clark, Co-President of
International Peace Bureau, Dr. Kim Kijung, Former Professor of Yonsei
University, Dr. Lucia Husenicova of Matej Bel University of Slovakia,
and Professor Yoon Sungwook of Chungbuk National University of Korea.

The Ministry of Unification wishes to facilitate discussions and
calls for joint response for denuclearization and setting lasting
peace on the Korean Peninsula. The Ministry will also listen to
opinions of experts in and out of Korea and continue our effort for
lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula and development of inter-Korean relations.
