The Cabinet deliberated and approved the promulgation of the partial amendment
to the ‘Development of Inter-Korean Relations Act’

The Government today (Dec. 22) deliberated and approved the promulgation of the partial amendment to the ‘Development of Inter-Korean Relations Act’ at the 62nd Cabinet Meeting presided over by the Prime Minister.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Chung Se-kyun asked Unification Minister Lee In-young to closely communicate with relevant organizations and thoroughly prepare for the Act to meet the purpose of the revision, as various opinions are raised with regards to the partial amendment.

Unification Minister Lee assured that utmost efforts will be exerted to protect the lives and safety of residents near the DMZ, the fundamental purpose of the amendment.

The Minister went on to say that he would strive to prevent unnecessary misunderstanding on the amendments by closely communicating with the public and the National Assembly, which initially proposed and approved the Act.

The Government will enact ‘Guidelines for Interpretation of Scattering Leaflets and Other Items’ before the Act goes into effect as scheduled. The guidelines, as the legislation initially intended, will articulate that the act of flying leaflets in third countries is not subject to the law.
