Resolving the North Korean Nuclear Issue
and the Future of the North Korean Economy

□ The Ministry of Unification will host an international forum on
resolving the North Korean nuclear issue and the future of the North
Korean economy on the 1st of November at the Westin Josun Seoul with
experts from South Korea, the United States, and Japan.
□ Over three sessions, “Resolving the North Korean Nuclear Issue and
the Future of the North Korean Economy,” “Analysis of North Korea’s
Economic Stagnation,” and “The Reality of the North Korean Economy and
Its Impact on the Lives of North Koreans,” the forum will diagnose and
analyze the causes of North Korea’s economic stagnation, while North
Korean defectors will participate as panelists to vividly convey the
lives of North Koreans.
o Following the opening remarks by the Minister of Unification, the
first session, moderated by Kim Chun Sig, President of KINU, will
feature open round-table discussions on “Resolving the North Korean
Nuclear Issue and the Future of the North Korean Economy” with experts
from South Korea, the United States, and Japan.
o The second session, moderated by Nam Sung Wook, President of the
Institute for Unification and Convergence, Korea University, will
cover “Analysis of North Korea’s Economic Stagnation” through expert
presentations and discussions.
o The final session, moderated by Ko Young Hwan, Special Assistant
to the Minister of Unification, will shed light on “The Reality of the
North Korean Economy and Its Impact on the Lives of North Koreans”
through the stories of four North Korean defectors.
* The forum will provide simultaneous interpretation between Korean
and English and will be available to the public via the Ministry of
Unification’s communication channel (www.youtube.com/@mounikorea).
□ The Ministry of Unification expressed hope that this forum would
help broaden support and consensus among South Koreans and the
international community on the resolution of the North Korean nuclear
issue and the direction of North Korea’s economic development. //The End//
